Living on the oceanfront in a tourist city, I can tell you that Labor Day is a great time of the year to plan a vacation. The ocean water here is still warm and is even more beautiful, the summer is over and the kids are back in school. Temperatures have dropped just a little, and in a warm and humid climate, that means everything. If it’s one of the best times of the year to vacation in Myrtle Beach, then you can imagine it’s one of the best times of the year to vacation in many other cities around the US as well.

If you like that time of year so much like many others do, then you might want to take more than just the weekend off. My birthday always falls right around Labor Day, and so I’m a little biased. However, think about it for a moment. If you take only Labor Day weekend off, you’re going to be doing what everyone else is doing. However, if you add some days to the front and to the back of that vacation, then you not only have more time but less people to contend with while enjoying your new favorite vacation getaway spot.

Are you going to fly?
If not, you might not be thinking about going out of the country. However, if you don’t mind driving long distances, you can still hit up Canada. The reason I mention that is in 2016, Toronto, Canada is one of the top Labor Day vacation spots. If you live up north, the ticket prices these days are pretty cheap according to some of the travel experts.

Road trips are fun, but sometimes to get to your destination quickly enough, it’s time to fly, right? What are some of the other top Labor Day travel destinations? There is Aruba, and my goodness, doesn’t that sound like a treat? Stateside, Washington DC is considered to be a top travel destination. I would put New York City in the mix, too, although that is going to be my Christmas vacation this year.

Chicago is another top Labor Day vacation destination. Looking back at Canada again for a moment, you might also want to consider Vancouver. Have you ever been to Atlanta? Also down south, a little further and out of the country, you have two other Labor Day hot spots, Cancun and Cozumel. Speaking of those two locations, you might also want to consider a Labor Day cruise.
